Why The Fat Butcher moved from Bird Pickup Delivery Date to Flare: Select Delivery Dates on Shopify?

The Fat Butcher is a UK premium meats delivery business, founded in 2014.

The Fat Butcher had previously been using the Shopify app, Bird Pickup Delivery Date, to offer delivery dates to their customers. However, every day, they were running into reliability issues with order tags leading to early shipments when customers didn't expect. This drove customer complaints and refunds on a daily basis. In February 2025, The Fat Butcher switched to Flare: Select Delivery Dates. 

The challenge.

The Fat Butcher were having issues where not every scheduled order was being tagged, resulting in orders being shipped too early or 100s of emails being sent to every customer to confirm their delivery dates. The other challenge faced was that customers wanted to reschedule delivery dates and this would involve The Fat Butcher team getting an email and having to change all of the delivery and shipment dates manually, taking hours each day.

This resulted in poor customer experiences, lost sales and weekly operational time sinks.

This is where Flare came in.

Flare delivers a higher level of reliability, tagging orders across all payment methods and across platforms (desktop and mobile), including mobile app sites (e.g. Tapcart). We hold every order and release them on their ship dates. The Fat Butcher team can even view the upcoming shipping quantities in Flare’s shipping calendar and set order limits for each day.

To save hours each week, The Fat Butcher added Flare’s “Change a delivery date” link to the Order Confirmation Email sent to customers and integrated Flare’s Customer Account Extension, allowing customers to reschedule delivery dates themselves in their Customer Accounts Page. When dates are rescheduled, Flare’s delivery and ship date tags are automatically updated in Shopify, saving the team from making manual edits themselves.

What have been the results?

  • Increase in delivery accuracy and fewer refunds: With every order being tagged across payment methods, more orders are being delivered on time, without manual customer outreach or unexpected customer complaints.

  • Increase in customer NPS and repeat orders: More customers are receiving their orders on the delivery dates they selected, resulting in higher customer satisfaction, positive reviews and repeat purchases.

  • Hours in operational time saved: With automated rescheduling of delivery dates and fewer tagging errors, less operational time is spent fixing errors and offering refunds.
